Underpinning
EXPERIENCE AT WORK
We Wrote the Book on Underpinning
Underpinning is often necessary when a structure is settling and its foundation is unable to support it effectively. This process repairs and enhances the structure by providing additional vertical support that extends deep into the ground. Underpinning methods can range from simple concrete pads placed under footings to more complex solutions like helical piles installed beneath existing foundation footings. At Abalon, we utilize Almita Piles, manufactured right here in Alberta to suit our specific soil conditions. Almita Piles hold Canadian Construction Materials Centre certification, and we ensure that any necessary permits for underpinning are managed by contractors who also meet CCMC standards.
Our crews are trained by Almita Piles, delivering unmatched service quality and expertise. While underpinning may sound intimidating in the context of foundation repairs, it doesn’t have to be when you choose a company with experience and engineered solutions for underpinning projects like Abalon Foundation Repairs.
With over 50 years of collective experience between our offices in Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg, we provide you with the reassurance that you are working with true industry experts.

What We Do
Q & A
My home is built on very rocky soils. My engineer advised I need piles. Can you install piles in this type of soil?
Yes. We use Helical Piles, which are built to go through rocky soils. Our Edmonton and Winnipeg offices use friction piles. The friction pile machine was developed by Abalon in the 1970’s.
What experience does Abalon have with underpinning and pile installation?
Let’s say we wrote the book. Abalon, along with the University of Manitoba published a book teaching young engineers how piles work and the correct procedure for installation.
